Mass Customisation: enabler to combine the best of two worlds

Mass Customisation: enabler to combine the best of two worlds.

Solar energy everywhere. Producing tailor-made products on a large scale and affordably, this is the future of solar energy. New ways to integrate solar panels so that they are invisible or, on the contrary, become an aesthetic part of a suitable surface.

Mass Customisation can open this path to the energy transition. By combining technology used in large volume production, with the industry 4.0 customisation possibilities, many square meters of surface in the built environment, infrastructure or integrated in applications, can be produced in the near future.

Marc Koetse (TNO)  will explain what Mass Customisation is and why this development is necessary to make to come to large scale production of affordable and aesthetic solar modules or integrated solar technology.

Marc Meuris is program manager and team leader of the Alternative Thin Film PV program in imomec, the associated imec laboratory at Hasselt University. This program is part of the module program of Solliance.  The new R&D domain of Marc Meuris is focusing on the technology development for cost effective BIPV (Building Integrated PV) solutions. BIPV is expected to become one of the important application domains for Thin Film PV. This domain is developed in collaboration with EnergyVille and Solliance.
